Austin Horn

I'm Austin Horn, a journalist with a long record of in-depth investigations into local, state and federal government; dedicated beat reporting; and thoughtful analysis.

I began my career at NPR, completing its Kroc Fellowship program. Then, during COVID, I returned to Kentucky to help run the newspaper where I got my first journalism internship. I've spent the last four-plus years covering state and federal politics and policy at the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Journalism is my calling. No day is the same as the last, the work is a net positive for my community, and hunting a story - whether scandalous or silly - is just plain fun. I go the extra mile because I love it.

Outside of work, I enjoy playing music in a rock band, playing and watching basketball, film, reading and the great outdoors.
